The National Democratic Congress’ constituency Chairman for Keta, Dr Senanu Kwesi Dzokoto has resigned from his position as chairman of the party and filed forms to contest for the slot to represent the people of Keta in Parliament.
Dr Dzokoto and some five others have picked up nomination forms, seeking to replace Richard Quashigah who failed to seek re-election.
In his letter of resignation, Dr Dzokoto noted that “in pursuit of our common objective of making life better for our people who have sacrificed their livelihoods for the general good of all, I dedicated all my resources, time and energy to the good people of Keta Constituency. Together, we envision a more formidable force that would fight for the interest of our people and appropriately reward service and loyalty”.
The incumbent MP for Keta, Richard Quashigah is one of four serving members of parliament who failed to pick up forms to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries and subsequently contest 2020 general elections.
Responding to concerns of the Minority in parliament about the brain drain Parliament is likely is to suffer as a number of seasoned parliamentarians, including the longest serving MP, Kingsford Sumana Alban Bagbin bowing out of Parliament, Dr Dzokoto said “such attritions are inevitable in the life of any institution”.
He expressed confidence that younger aspirants including himself will “learn fast while bringing new energy onboard in order to shorten the attrition period”.
Dr. Senanu Kwesi Dzokoto has in the past been a personal aide to former President and founding member of the National Democratic Congress, Jerry John Rawlings.
The NDC will hold its parliamentary primaries on the 24th of August, 2019 across the country.
