Rotarian Dominic Mary Kornu has been sworn in as the new President of the Sunyani Central Rotary Club in the Bono Region.
Dominic Mary Kornu takes over from Edem Kwaku Agbley and would be steering the affairs of the club until 2020.
He called for more support from the incoming board saying, “To my incoming board, the job ahead is huge and we cannot do it all. However, we can take little steps that would serve as a foundation for future boards to build on. Our goals as a club for this year are based on that of Rotary International.”
Rotarian Kornu also admonished members of the Club to sacrifice their time, money and be committed to the club.
He indicated that his administration would continue to uphold the six areas of focus of the club namely; maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, peace and conflict prevention and resolution, disease prevention and treatment and water and sanitation.
“Our projects succeed because members make themselves available to perform needs assessments and site visit, and also freely donate an hour of their time each week to engage in fellowship with other members and contribute their ideas to the club’s pursuit of furthering. Being a Rotarian is not a luxury, it is a calling to serve. Volunteers are not attracted to talk, but action.”
He indicated that the club is not an occult group as people perceive but a group that is contributing its quota to solve some of society’s problems.
“Rotary is not an elitist organization. It’s a group of individuals who pull resources together to achieve a goal and in the process make the world a better place to live in. Rotarians are not show-off. Show-offs are actually no shows when it comes to service and giving value,” Rotarian Kornu noted.
Assistant Governor of Rotary, Jack Andrews Dotsey urged members of the Club to re-dedicate themselves and be committed to Rotary. This he believes would bring the needed change.
“We as Rotarians have the responsibility to reconnect to the idles of service, service above self, service to humanity, we need to reconnect ourselves to identify the challenges in our communities, transforming lives and bringing about change in these communities.”
