The Western Regional House of Chiefs has indicated that its doors are open to mediate the feud between Lower and Upper Dixcove.
The two towns have a long-standing dispute over boundaries which degenerated earlier this week, leading to the destruction and assault of a number of people in lower Dixcove including its chief, Nana Akwasi Agyemang.
Speaking to Citi News, the Acting President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III, cautioned against people taking the law into their own hands.
“We are also doing our best to look at what led to that incident. We are just taking the pieces that everybody knows now but that doesn’t mean we are not aware of the chieftaincy issues out here. We have to look at where the problem is and try to solve it and find where the truth lies. Whatever assumption that is out there, people should restrain themselves.”
President Akufo Addo has assured residents of Dixcove in the Western Region of adequate police presence following a chieftaincy dispute.
The Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyemang who is currently on admission at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi was attacked by masked assailants in his palace leaving him with knife wounds.
President Akufo Addo who visited the Paramount Chief and a few of his elders at the hospital promised adequate police protection.
The dispute forced President Akufo Addo to call off a planned sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a landing beach.
