Ghanaian singer, Wendy Shay has apologised to former President John Agyekum Kufuor over a photo she posted on her social media handle on Thursday.

In the photo which was posted and later deleted on her Instagram page, she was seated by former President J.A. Kufuor in a sofa and the former president’s gaze was in her direction.

What brought her a lot of backlash was the caption of the photo: “Kufuor pe hwe. Finally, met my former chief Uber driver.”

“Kufuor pe hwe” in Twi literally means Kufuor enjoys feasting his eyes on things that are attractive.

This was inspired by the lyrics of Wendy Shay’s ‘Uber Driver’ which talks about how men cannot take their eyes off any beautiful woman they see.

The song mentions men like President, Nana Akufo-Addo, former Presidents J.A Kufuor, John Mahama, Asamoah Gyan and her manager, Bullet among others.

Critics of her post have described it disrespectful and disapproved of her choice of dress to the meeting.

The photo was taken when Wendy Shay and other Youth Employment Ambassadors paid a courtesy call on the former President.

Read Wendy Shay’s apology below:

“On the 4th of July, 2019, I posted an image of myself and His Excellency Former President John Agyekum Kufuor on my social media timeline. This was after I visited him with my fellow Youth Employment Agency Ambassadors officially. The image I posted went viral on social media for the wrong reasons and I will wish to render an unqualified apology to His Excellency and the board and Management of the Youth Employment Agency. I had no intention of bringing his good image into any public disrepute. I would wish to apologize to the general public as well with most of the comments being directed to my outfit. I am a young lady and I am still learning. To err is human, to forgive is divine. I promise to do better next time. Once again, I am sorry.”

Wendy Shay, a signee of RuffTown Records has to her credit, songs like ‘Astalavista,’ ‘Asore’, ‘Psalm 35’, ‘All for You’, among others.

She won the Best New Artiste of the Year at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
