Police in the Central Region have arrested three suspects who allegedly killed two police officers at Gomoa Budumburam.

According to the Police, the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) officers, Sergeant Michael Djamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal were conducting a motor check along the Kasoa to Budumburam stretch when they signalled an unregistered Toyota Corolla to stop.

Speaking to Citi News, the Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Oppong,  explained that the officers pursued the saloon car after it refused to stop adding that the occupants of the unregistered vehicles opened fire at the police personnel killing one in the process and injuring another officer.

“The Central Regional Police wants to give a confirmation to an incident that has happened at Budumburam. The Kasoa MTTD personnel were conducting a motor check along that Kasoa to Budumburam stretch, when they signaled a unregistered car to stop which refused so two police men in a police car chased them. At a point occupant in the unregistered car started shooting at the police personnel.”

The injured one according to the police subsequently passed away.

Police in a series of tweets stated that “the vehicle, an unregistered Toyota Camry has also been retrieved together with some relevant articles.”

The names of the suspects are yet to be made known by the police.

In a statement, the police has condemned the act and has began investigation,

“The police administration condemns this dastardly and cowardly act! Strenous efforts are ongoing to get all other perpetrators of the murder to face full rigours of the law”.

Below is the full statement by the police.
