Agents of the various parliamentary aspirants will not be allowed to carry phones near booths at the centres during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

The voters will also not be allowed to carry phones when going to vote.

The centres are also supposed to be campaign free zones, the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has warned.

“No agent shall be allowed to carry mobile phones to the booth. If you are a party agent, keep the phones away. We don’t want you to have the opportunity to take pictures, just like the way somebody takes pictures while voting and circulates it on Whatsapp. At the same time, no voter will be allowed to carry a mobile phone to the polling booth.”

“It is prohibited for you to be canvasing for votes. No pictures or an effigy or parliamentary aspirants shall be allowed within 500 metres of the voting centre. So don’t approach the voting centre in the T-shirt of your favoured aspirant.”

The upcoming parliamentary primaries will be held in 157 constituencies across the country where 524 aspirants have been cleared to contest.

But the party has suspended the primary elections at the Asawase and Ellembelle constituencies as well as three other constituencies due to petitions by some of the aspirants.

There will also be no election in 39 other constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliaments or aspirants are contesting unopposed.

Six aspirants in the primaries were disqualified a few days to the polls.

The affected persons were Alhaji Ibrahim Dori for Bawku Central, Dr. King Suleyman Dima Bachiesichang for Sisala East, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Rabiyu for Salaga North, Maxwell Okah Okai for Agona East, Raphael Parku and Kwame Aduhene Kwarteng, both for the Juaboso Constituency.
