The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reopened nominations for its parliamentary primaries at the Ashaiman constituency from today [Friday] to Saturday, August 17, 2019.

This comes on the back of the death of one of the aspirants in the race, Emmanuel Max Voy.

Leadership of the party took the decision after a meeting between national, regional and constituency executives on Friday.

Emmanuel Max Voy passed away days to the election slated on August 24, 2019.

In a statement, the NDC said filing of the nominations will be held on Monday, August 19 while the vetting and balloting will take place later in the evening on the same day.

The election will be held on August 24, 2019 within the various constituencies nationwide.

“The nomination has been opened at Ashaiman Constituency office today, 16th August 2019 and closes tomorrow, 17th August 2019 at 5:00 pm. Filing of nomination will be on Monday 19th August 2019. Vetting and balloting follow at 6:00 pm on Monday 19th August 2019. The election will be held on the 24th August alongside the rest of the constituencies that will take place nationwide as scheduled”, the statement noted.

Max Voy died at the Ridge Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

He was the only person challenging the candidature of the NDC incumbent MP for Ashaiman, Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey.

He successfully filed his nomination weeks ago.

Max Voy reportedly was battling with ill-health for some time now, and has been occasionally admitted at the Ridge Hospital.

Emmanuel Max Voy last four years was one of the main aspirants hoping to unseat the then incumbent Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and the Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Alfred Agbesi.

He made a come back this time round to unseat the first-term MP, Ernest Henry Norgbey but his health failed him.

Ernest Norgbey subsequently suspended his campaign activities to mourn his contender.
