The Director-General of Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu has disclosed plans to scale up Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline (WAI) campaign to other regions starting from the Ashanti Region.
COP Yohunu made this known in a Citi News interview when he made a stop on the Spintex Road to observe the operation of the #WAI team on Tuesday.
“[Until this campaign] I was imagining, when drivers on our roads will drive according [to laws], but within a short time we have realized that there is a serious discipline [after the Citi TV campaign started]. When you started this exercise, we realized that we cannot leave you to do this alone, there should be the police to make this exercise very successful. We will extend this to other regions and by the time we get there, they will know that the people are in town,” he said.
“Very soon, in less than two weeks we have to be in Kumasi. I discussed with the IGP and he accepted the proposal that we have to be in Kumasi,” COP Tetteh Yohunu added.
The Citi TV crew and police officers from the MTTD were on the Spintex Road enforcing road traffic regulations to ensure free flow of traffic.
COP Yohunu expressed delight at the results achieved within the short time since the management of Citi TV introduced the campaign.
He lamented on how dealing with undisciplined drivers on the country’s roads had for a long time been a major challenge for him as Director-General of the MTTD.
He praised the station and his men for the work done and announced a similar exercise will take place in the Ashanti Region soon.
The War Against Indiscipline campaign started by Citi TV in May 2019 to help bring sanity on roads in the country has helped the government to make over GHc258,000 in fines from errant drivers.
