Scores of parents and their wards who thronged the Ghana Education Service’s Complaints and Solutions Centre set up at the Independence Square in Accra on Thursday were left stranded.
The parents were at the centre to rectify challenges with posting of their wards into Senior High Schools (SHS) by the computerized school selection and placement system.
The Minister of Education Mathew Opoku Prempeh had earlier explained that 75 percent of students have been posted to various schools in the first round of postings.
Those who were not posted were encouraged to visit designated centres to have their challenges resolved.
But some parents who spoke to Citi News said the process for correction leaves much to be desired.
“We came here on Monday and we were asked to come back today. We got here and have been asked to come back on Monday. The problem is that we work for people and had to ask for permission from our bosses to come here only for us not to be attended to. So we are pleading with them to assist us because we may not get the chance to be here again,” a parent said.
“She had a good grade but was given her third choice so we came here on Tuesday to find out if it could be changed to her first choice. They took her details on Tuesday but I’ve since not had any response so I had to come back to do a follow-up,” another parent complained.
Placement for students.
The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for Senior High Schools (SHS) begun postings on Friday, September 6, 2019.
This gave qualified candidates the opportunity to check the school the CSSPS system for their placements.
Suspension of self-placement module
The Ghana Education Service (GES) temporarily suspended the self-placement module on Wednesday.
This action, they say is to enable them update the list of schools and programs available on the module.
This is expected to last until September 12, 2019.
A statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, head of public relations at GES, said;
“Management of Ghana Education Service wishes to announce to students, parents and the general public that the self-placement Module of the School Placement Platform has been temporarily closed down. This is to enable GES update the list of schools and programs available on the module. This module is expected to come live again on Thursday 12th September 2019.”
