The Awutu Traditional Council has denied reports by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency, George Andah was hooted at during the 2019 Awudia festival.

According to the Council, nothing of that sort happened at the festival.

It also used the opportunity to set the records straight following an alleged press release issued by one Mr. Kwaku Ampong who is said to be the NDC Communication Officer of the Awutu Senya West constituency.

The press release according to the Council sort to mislead the public and had its heading captured as; ‘’Hon. George Andah Hooted at Awutu Awubia Festival.”

The Council called on the NDC to rebuke Mr. Ampong for allegedly spreading false information concerning the incumbent MP of the area, George Andah.

‘’We call on the National Democratic Congress in the constituency to rebuke Mr. Ampong for peddling falsehood about the successful festival. An act which has brought the name of the Traditional Council and Planning Committee into disrepute. This we will not take lightly. In as much as political parties would like to push their candidates as the better option compared to that of the parties, involving the Traditional Council in such act is deemed  disrespectful and denigrates our customs and culture.’’

The Traditional Council calls on Mr. Ampong and the NDC to render an unqualified apology or face a stiffer sanction which will serve as deterrent for politicians who engage in an unhealthy politics.

The Awutu Traditional Council and Awubia festival Planning Committee for the Awubia Festival 2019 expressed their profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the area, Nenyi George Andah.

The Chairman of the Committee who doubles as the Ag. President of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Pobee Abundam VII who addressed the media said, ‘’the festival this year was undoubtedly one of the best in terms of organization, programs, structure and support. We also recorded an incident-free festival.’’

He praised the MP for his support of the Awubia Festival;

‘’Mr. Andah is a god-sent and has been of great assistant not only to the Traditional Council or the people of Awutu but the entire constituency and country at large. He indeed this years’ festival a memorable one and we wish all political parties and candidates will emulate his style.’’

“We would also like to thank the Regional Minister and MMDCEs and other corporate sponsors such as MTN, Vodafone, ABL and everybody who supported the in one way or the other.”

The Awubia festival is celebrated by the people of Awutu in the Central Region at the last week of August.

It is a week celebration to commiserate successful achievement of a bumper harvest, which the people of Awutu refer to as ‘Bia’, and the ceremonial offering of thanks to the gods and ancestors.
