The Upper West Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is blaming the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the deplorable state of the Wa-Tumu road.
According to them, the government has ignored calls to rehabilatate the road.
Their comments follow a directive issued by the roads minister Kwasi Amoako Attah to the Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana Highways Authority to immediately fix the Sissala East municipality portion of the road.
The road is among the many road projects in the Upper West region that have been awarded to contractors but abandoned due to lack of funds.
The NDC Upper West regional communications officer, Puo Ire Proper in a Citi News interview said the Akufo-Addo government must be blamed for the bad nature of the road.
“Government has suspended the works of the contractors and claim they are doing value for money audit and for that reason have not honoured any certificate to any contractor working on any part of that road and the rains continue to come and the rains is taking away what progress has been made on the road already,” he said.
The party in a press release said the government had been negligent in dealing with the matter.
“For us, the solution to this mess deliberately created by Government does not just reside in a hollow directive to the Highway Authority, but Government must immediately honour the certificates of all road contractors in the Region including the ones working on the Wa-Tumu-Navrongo-Bolgatanga roads to enable them return to site immediately.
We are appealing to him to use his high Office to facilitate the immediate release of funds for the contractors working on these roads to find a lasting solution to our difficulties. He is kindly reminded that, Governments all over the world are elected to solve problems and not to create them through unpopular and self seeking policies such as what we are suffering now,” it said in the statement.
