Facebook has brought together and celebrated 40 young leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers from sub-Saharan Africa in Accra.
The two-day event was titled ‘Celebrating Icons of Change‘.
“There is enough talent in Africa but a lack of opportunity. That tells you that there is a huge interest and drive by the youth to change the continent. This event is a testament to the point that we have great talent and we should celebrate them well enough because they are the change-makers that we have,” Chimdi Aneke, a developer and startup programs manager at Facebook told Citi News.
Attendees of the Celebrating Icons of Change programme came from 15 countries in the sub-region and spent two days networking, attending leadership and digital skills workshops.
“The next thing is to take this forward. This is the first time that we are bringing creatives, entrepreneurs and developers in a room. This is the beginning of greater moments where we bring these change makers together. We want to do more of this, even on a larger scale,” Chimdi added.
