Nursing and midwifery candidates around the country are taking part in their licencing examination online.
3,502 candidates are taking part in this examination today, Monday.
The examination is being conducted in 44 centres across the country.
This year’s online examination started on the 9th of September with the registered community nursing and registered mental nursing courses.
The examination is however expected to end on 19th of September 2019.
Public Relations Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Nana Boateng Agyemang disclosed that the idea behind the online licensing examination is in line with the broader vision of Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of digitizing public services in the country.
“The Nursing and midwifery council is a statutory body and our mandate is to regulate the training and practice of nursing and midwifery in Ghana. As part of our function, we are to conduct licensing examinations for our trainees and this licensing examination, upon passing, we are going to register you either as a registered midwife or as a registered nurse and registered nursing assistant. Currently, we are doing online licensing examinations.”
In an interview with Citi News Nana Boateng Agyemang also disclosed that the switch to online licensing examination is more beneficial to the council as compared to paper written examination because it is cost-effective.
“The Vice-President has a digitized agenda for Ghana, it is upon this basis that the Nursing and midwifery council deems it fit that we should digitize all our services.. The licensing examinations is one of them. A lot of activities went into the paper based examinations, when we are conducting the paper based examinations we incur a lot of cost because of the use of paper and transporting materials and invigilators…. Going online is very beneficial. This project was done in collaboration with the Dutch embassy and KNUST.”
He was also grateful to the Netherlands embassy and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology of supporting the initiative.
