Scores of armed military personnel, including well-built men believed to be land-guards, on Wednesday allegedly harassed developers at Otinibi in the La-Nkwantanan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Residents have been complaining that these military men have been preventing them from visiting their sites.
Close to about one hundred residents were allegedly affected by the activities of these soldiers and land-guards.
Citi News’ Elvis Washington who visited the area reported that some uniformed soldiers were seen pulling down buildings belonging to other people.
“Here at Otinibi in the Greater Accra region, soldiers have pulled down people’s buildings. I also saw some military vehicles, moving in the area,” Elvis Washington reported.
One of the victims who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity explained that his checks reveal that the soldiers were doing the bidding of a real estate developer who goes by the name, ‘Dan Markins’
“A couple of months ago, we saw some marking on some buildings here which read, ‘Markin, remove.’ A couple of weeks ago this same Markins sent people to come and grade a huge tract of land which belongs to people here. I have been here since 2014 and I am a property owner here. We have been told he is called Dan Markins and we wants to develop an estate with the land. He is taking lands which belongs to other people. Personally, I am shocked at why armed soldiers are here,” a property owner at Otinibi said.
Another property owner who spoke to Citi News also questioned the presence of armed military men on private properties.
“I have my documents and I didn’t see his name on my search, so I don’t know why he should bring soldiers around to be threatening people.”
“The way they are terrorizing our guys on site is very unfortunate, you can’t even come to your site to work.”
