The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sissala East, Karim Nanyua, has assured residents of the Municipality that works on the truncated parts of the Tumu-Navrongo-Bolga Highway would begin tomorrow.
He said the work was supposed to begin today, Monday but had to be re-scheduled because of the public holiday.
Hundreds of passengers and farmers who were travelling along the Highway last Friday were left stranded following a downpour that washed away portions of the highway, disrupting transportation services.
Speaking to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) assured residents of the Municipality that works would begin tomorrow.
“Initially the contractor working on the road was complaining bitterly but because this is an emergency issue we could not wait to address all his issues before moving to the site. However, later on, he agreed that he will move to the site. Yesterday his people did an assessment of the site, but because today is a holiday, hopefully, we will move to the site tomorrow.”
Parts of Tumu-Navrongo-Bolga Highway washed away
Hundreds of passengers and farmers travelling along Tumu-Navrongo-Bolga Highway were left stranded on Friday, 20th September 2019, in Dimajang, ten kilometres from Tumu in the Sissala East Municipal after a portion of the road was washed away by a flood.
Sissala East Assembly engineers are attributing the collapse of that section of the road to the removal of some culverts which protected an important bridge from high volumes of water.
The situation disrupted transportation as Metro Mass bus and other vehicles moving from both Bolga to Tumu and Wa were either forced to cancel the journey or left to stop at Dimajang and exchange passengers with other vehicles.
Mr Karim Nanyua, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive, visited the area and has also been discussing the situation with the contractor- Mawums Company Limited, to find an immediate solution.
The MCE assured the public that efforts were being made to ensure that passengers and vehicles use the road immediately.
