The student of Fumbisi Senior High School in the Upper East Region who lost her sight after falling from the second floor of a dormitory building is set to be transferred to either the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital or the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The girl, Salomey Akambog, was alleged to have been running from a spirit when she fell.
Eight other girls also collapsed during the incident which led to the school being closed down.
Salomey Akambog was rushed on Sunday night to the Sandema District hospital for treatment.
But upon arrival at the hospital, she was said to have lost her sight.
Speaking to Citi News, Medical Director of the Sandema District hospital, Dr. Abraham Titigah said, although the patient has regained her consciousness; she will require critical treatment and thus will be transferred.
“We have still not found where the problem is coming from and we will need to send this to a higher centre where advanced imaging can be done to identify the point from which this loss of vision may have arisen.”
She will need a neurologist, a neurosurgeon, a radiologist to all look at her and I’m sure together they will be able to identify from what point along the visual tract she has lost this vision.”
The shutdown of the school occurred when students started rioting and vandalizing school properties, according to the Builsa South District Chief Executive, Daniel Gariba.
He said male students took advantage of the situation and started attacking some teachers and even vandalised the senior housemistress residence.
