The family of the 28-year-old mobile phone dealer, Aglebe Dodzi who was brutalized by two police officers at the Railways police station in Koforidua is demanding compensation from the government.

The suspect is alleged to have stolen GH¢ 1,600 from his boss.

The two officers, General Sergeant Patrick Amoako and General Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo were captured in a video torturing the suspect.

The video which went viral on social media showed the officers whipping the handcuffed and bare-chested suspect countless times with what looked like a belt.

The suspect insisted that he took only GHS350 from his boss’ private car.

Despite an initial denial of the incident by the two policemen, they allegedly claimed that they sought to extract a confession from the suspect and therefore resorted to beating him.

Father of the suspect, Alegbe Daniel in an earlier interview said that his son was illegally detained from Friday until he was granted bail on Monday without medical attention.

He told Citi News’ Nii Amartey Kanarku that, the family wants compensation to be paid to make up for the abuse their son suffered.

“The family will meet tomorrow about compensation and at the appropriate time, we will let the public known. Those who did the thing, I think they are state officials so if the state wants to compensate, I will take it. The family will demand for compensation for our child,” he said.

He added that he supports a directive by the acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh to interdict the two officers.
