Providence smiled on a woman and her newly-born baby in the middle of a road in Dambai, the Oti Regional capital.
The woman, believed to be in her thirties, entered into labour in the middle of nowhere, and had it not been for the timely intervention of two public health officers, would have lost her life.
Rita Wurapa and Rose Ayivor, who were the two health workers at the scene, were on a monitoring trip to Dambai and Nkwanta when they encountered the woman in labour, who was on a motorbike at the time.
Obviously in a precarious situation, the motor rider, who was also her husband, and was conveying his distressed wife to the closest health facility, had no option but to stop in the middle of the road.
Stunned by the turn of events, a crowd began to form around the woman who was at that time wincing in pain.
It took the timely intervention of the two health professionals to help deliver the baby from the first-time mother.
The mother and the newly-born baby were later sent to the hospital with both currently in a stable condition.
