Several roads within the Tema Metropolis and its adjourning municipalities are going from bad to worse.
In the Tema metropolis for instance, although most of the roads are being tarred and asphalted, there are still a few that are in deplorable states and require urgent attention.
One of such roads is the VALCO roundabout through the oil refinery to Kpone road.
Truck drivers who ply that road bemoaned the poor nature of the road and appealed to authorities to act fast.
“The road is really bad and so when you want to convey goods to the warehouse, you usually end up with some of the goods falling off the truck. This has caused several deaths on this road and so we begging the government to help us because we are really suffering”.
“The road has been very bad for a very long time and usually when we load rice, some of the bags fall off when we enter potholes,” some of the drivers complained.
Roads in the Kpone Katamanso municipality are no different. Almost every road in the municipality is in a deplorable state.
Some drivers who spoke to Citi News expressed worry at the state of roads in the municipality.
“We are all taxpayers in this country and so if we those who are in this area pay tax and these are the roads that our cars and people move on then it is not a good thing at all and it is time for us to sit down and have a change of mind as a country”.
“When it rains you cannot even move, sometimes passengers queue for a long time in the evening because no driver wants to drive on the road. From 4 to 5pm you feel severe pain in your waste and so you can’t even drive again. It is bad when it rains because you won’t even see the potholes before your car goes into them”.
As many demonstrate and pile pressure on government to fix their roads, residents, and motorists within Tema, Ashaiman and Kpone Katamanso, are also demanding urgent attention on community roads that are deteriorating rapidly.
Some private individuals have taken the initiative to work on certain parts of the road to make it motorable.
Meanwhile, some waste companies have taken advantage of the situation to dump refuse onto the road under the guise of making the road motorable.
