Education Think Tank, African Education Watch is asking President Nana Akufo-Addo to build a consensus with faith based organisations and Civil Society Organizations on aspects of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education to be taught in line with Ghanaian values.

Speaking to Citi News on the assurances, the Executive Director of African Education Watch, Kofi Asare said a comprehensive plan on the aspects of the policy to be taught will bring finality to the matter.

“Even though the assurance has been given, the exact aspect of CSE, which we will want or we think is necessary to be inculcated or incorporated into our curriculum are not known. So, a discussion or a dialogue between the faith based organisations and moral society generally or parents and the GES will have to be convened so that there will be consensus on the aspects of CSE that families, parents, churches, mosques, and all the various religious and moral sector stakeholders will like to see in the curriculum at the junior high school level,” he said.

He further noted that, a discussion is needed since it is only when there is a consensus on the topics to be incorporated in the curriculum, that CSOs like the faith based organisations can monitor to be sure that the President’s promise is being implemented.

Over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo assured some faith-based organisations of not introducing any subject in the education curriculum that could compromise the culture and moral values of Ghanaians.

Speaking at separate meetings with Muslim and Christian leaders in Kumasi, he assured them that his Government will not introduce any policy that will be alien to the Ghanaian culture.

The President before the meeting addressed a congregation at the St. Cyprians Anglican Church where he assured Faith-based Organizations that his Government will not introduce the CSE policy in the country’s educational system.
