The University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the Central region has resumed academic work after flood waters receded following hours of rainfall that submerged parts of the school yesterday.
Yesterday’s rains in the Central Region left parts of the campus, as well as many surrounding shops and houses, heavily flooded, forcing the suspension of academic work at the university.
Speaking to Citi News, the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Major Rtd. Kofi Baah Bentum confirmed that staff and students have resumed academic work.
“We suspended academic work hesitantly because of the rains yesterday. Fortunately, the rains stopped and up till now, we have not experienced any rains. So, yesterday evening, before we left here, the Director of Academic Affairs released a secular asking all students and staff to resume all academic work this morning. That has been done and as I speak to you now, lectures are going on. Everything is okay on campus,” he said.
Suspension of lectures due to flooding on UCC campus
After many hours of downpour on campus yesterday, management of the University postponed lectures, stating that the decision was to avert any fatalities.
However, they blamed the location of the school as the cause of flooding on the campus explaining that the school is surrounded by high lands thus causing water to flow through their campus any time it rains.
They debunked allegations that the flooding was caused by choked drains.
