The President of the Wisconsin International University College Ghana (WIUC-GH) Prof. Obeng Mireku has reiterated his institution’s stand on all forms of sexual harassment on both students and staff.
He made this remark at the 17th matriculation ceremony of the University which took place at its Accra campus.
Touching on the raging subject of ‘Sex for Grades’, the law professor said the punishment for such actions in Wisconsin as contained in the anti-sexual harassment policy document is deterrent enough, adding that “the student handbook clearly spells out the university’s sexual harassment policy and we are serious with that.”
Prof. Obeng Mireku welcomed freshmen to the University, admonishing them to make the best of opportunities Wisconsin offers them.
He added that the University has invested heavily in state-of-the-art learning facilities for the Law, Nursing, Communication, and I.T schools to help develop their skills as well as serve as an added advantage in the world of work.
”Choosing Wisconsin International University College to mould you into global change agents is a clear attestation of the confidence reposed on us. Through our innovative practical training method, we can confidently say we are on course to achieving our vision as the first private university in Ghana with highly qualified and motivated staff,” he said.
The 17th Matriculation ceremony heralded the beginning of university life for 1,203 fresh students to offer various programmes including Nursing, Law, Business, Economics, Environmental and Sustainability Management, Computer Science and Communication Studies at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Out of the total of people who took the matriculation oath, 373 were males representing 31% and 830 females representing 69%.
The Guest Speaker for the occasion was the Deputy Regional Commander for the Northern Region, DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman who is also an alumnus of WIUC-GH.
He spoke on the importance of discipline and hard work.
“Wisconsin International University does not compromise on performance, therefore I urge you to develop an interest in all the subjects and make every effort to excel in them,” he cautioned
.
Furthermore, the Registrar of the University College, Mr. Frank Yeboah used the occasion to remind parents of the commencement of teaching at its Kumasi campus, saying that campus is strategically located to serve prospective students who seek quality hands-on education.
Also present at the ceremony were members of the University Council chaired by Justice Isaac Douse, management and staff.
