A Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye has urged the state security apparatus to be cautious in its handling of the case involving persons who under investigation over an alleged plot to destabilize the state.
His comment comes in the wake of the arrest and interrogation of some top police officers over their alleged involvement in the suspected plot by some persons to destabilize the state.
Colonel Aboagye said the fundamental human rights of the officers should not be curtailed while pursuing such cases.
“Indeed, it is a prerogative of the BNI and other security institutions to protect the stability of the state. The questions should be about the way and manner in which these invitations have been made and the circumstances under which they are being held, bearing in mind that treason is not any ordinary crime. So to be associated with a treasonable offense already lights the professional career…of the character and integrity of the individuals.”
“And that is why I think the state ought to be very careful to establish a firm base for inviting certain persons to explain. Because once they are invited, as gullible as we are, we conclude that these persons are indeed guilty of attempting to overthrow the state,” he said.
The Director of the Transformation Office of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo was arraigned at the Kaneshie District Court today [Wednesday, November 6, 2019].
This was after he was denied bail by the BNI for two nights over his alleged involvement in the suspected coup plot.
He is the third top police officer to have been invited and questioned for his alleged involvement in the supposed plot.
