The live painting session was held on Wednesday, 27th November, 2019
The live painting session provided an opportunity for attendees to witness Mr. Otoo’s creative process as he painted in real time, with each of his painting lasting a period of our 15 minutes.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Otoo expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the event and also thank patrons for coming out to support his passion.
During the live painting, there was also music performance by Owurasax, a saxophonist.
Several of his works were also on display for the exhibition.
As one of the most renowned painters in Ghana today, Larry Otoo likes to refer to himself as a “contemporary traditionalist”. Born in Accra, Ghana in 1956, his subject matter is inspired by the everyday activities of ordinary Ghanaians. His vibrant paintings in oil and in acrylic capture the rhythm and beat of daily life. He paints, he says, “to record and preserve our traditions visually”.
Larry Otoo has exhibited his works in Asia, America, Europe and Africa and held an exhibition entitled “Vibrant Colours” at Out Of Africa Gallery (OOA) in Barcelona, Spain earlier this year. Otoo’s art will be on exhibit and also for sale at Purple Cafe until the end of December.
The live art session event was a free program held in partnership with Roots Hospitality International, Purple Cafe and Eat and Paint.
