The Ministry of Roads and Highways wants the contractor fixing the deplorable Teshie-LEKMA road to speed up work on the stretch.
The 7.5-km poor Teshie road is now under construction after a series of demonstrations by residents and media reports.
The route connects the Spintex road to the Accra-Tema Beach road, but work on it had stalled since 2016.
But Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Attah, tells Citi News the contactors had been directed to fast track their work to ensure that the project is completed as scheduled.
“They should increase their tempo of work particularly in grading the rough road up to the Teshie-Police Station- Beach junction. This will offer drivers and the travelling public some smooth roads. I still want all contractors wherever they find themselves, to double up. I even encourage them to work day and night so that a year by now, this controversial road that the previous government couldn’t do, we are going to do it.”
The Minister also reiterated that contractors owed by the government will be paid by the end of November.
Residents of Teshie still in distress over deplorable LEKMA road
Over the years, the poor condition and construction of the Teshie Link road have been an upsetting issue for the government and residents who are affected daily by it.
Residents and commuters who use the Teshie Link road say they are not satisfied with the pace of construction works on the road.
Citi News’ reports show that some parts of the road had seen a facelift.
However, that was reportedly ditched weeks ago for the road directly across the Lekma Hospital.
Although work had commenced, drivers who ply the stretch said they had not seen the contractors in two weeks.
In July this year, the Finance Ministry ordered the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to release an amount of GHc43,177,685.29, for the completion of various road projects in the country.
Key among the project detail is the rehabilitation of the 0.80km Teshie Rasta Area road awarded Messrs Lomenf Company Limited at a cost GHc 247,784.69.
