An assemblyman contestant for the Adukrom electoral area in the Ashanti Region, Ibrahim Adaabor Issah has lost the election at the close of polls on Tuesday.
Issah, also known as ‘Honourable Aponkye’ became an internet sensation after a video of him making very ambitious campaign promises went viral on social media.
His supporters joined him for a ‘victory procession’ through the streets after rumours that he was in the lead but at the end of polls, Ibrahim Adaabor Issah, polled 247 votes out of the 2,655 votes cast.
His many promises included free breakfast everyday for all residents in the electoral area, free tents and canopies for all public gatherings in the electoral area, free Islamic education for residents, free access to public toilet for aged people, and free waste collection if he wins the elections.
But his dreams were dashed as he performed abysmally in the just-ended elections despite the popularity he had gained.
On the morning of the voting, he provided breakfast to voters who had gone to the 17 polling stations to cast their ballots.
His contender, Abdul-Rashid Musah emerged victorious after he polled 1,030 votes.
Amankwah Maxwell came second with 798 votes and the incumbent assembly member, Iddris Abdallah polled 613 votes.
The exercise was generally peaceful in the Ashanti Region but was characterized with the low turnout which has always been the challenge for district level elections.
Meanwhile, three persons are still in police custody after they were arrested at the Sawaba-Adenyase electoral area for having a copy of the voters register in their possession.
The public had also concentrated on going through processes to register for the Ghana card at the expense of the elections.
