Tinkaro Asare Osei, the Immediate past President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and Ghana ‘s representative to the Commonwealth students Association has been awarded as the Students Icon of the year in Ghana for 2019 .
He was adjudged as the Students Icon of the year at the maiden edition of NUGs Excellence Awards which was held at the Accra International Conference Center as part of the NUGS Handing Over Ceremony and Alumni homecoming.
Tinkaro, who was recently crowned as the Most Impactful students’ leader for the 2018/2019 academic year at the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Annual Dinner and Awards night also received the best students author of the year for the book he wrote titled “The force will: Restoring the lost glory of NUGs”.
In the book, he outlined his vision for NUGS and worked at ensuring that such a dream of uniting NUGsand reforming the union through the amendment of a new constitution came to pass.
Although he succeeded a divided front, he never gave up on his promise to redeem the spirit of students activism in Ghana, to put the mother union of Ghanaian students unions to its rightful state and restore its lost glory. He is idolised by students for his iconic leadership and his unquantifiable leadership prowess which makes him a very influential figure in students leadership.

Tinkaro Asare appointed Ghana rep to the Commonwealth Students Association
In May this year, Mr. Tinkaro Asare who was then the President of the National Union of Ghana Students’ (NUGs), Tinkaro Asare Osei was also appointed by the Commonwealth Students’ Association to be the representative of the Association in Ghana.
The Commonwealth Students Association (CSA) unifies and embodies the needs and aspirations of national student councils and other student organisations in the Commonwealth.
It was launched in 2012 at the 18th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (18CCEM) in Mauritius, where student leaders gathered to make recommendations on the current issues in education and strengthen their role in the Commonwealth’s education sector.
According to him, he intends to ensure every university in the country has a competent representative to propagate the idea of the Commonwealth Students’ Association and to advocate and promote better living conditions and quality life.
