Continuous complaints by residents of the Ga East Municipality in the Greater Accra Region appear to be yielding some results as some work is ongoing on some deplorable roads in the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Janet Tulasi Mensah, who inspected ongoing projects to assess the level of work done so far, says work will soon be completed to bring relief to residents.
“In Ga East, we have issues with our roads, drains and flooding. We have seen a lot of work going on. The projects are at different levels of completion. When you look at Musuko and overlay asphalting, we will give it 70 to 75 percent. If you come to Ablorh Adjei and the Culvert it’s about 99 percent, we just have to fill the sides for commuters to use the road.” she said.
The projects under construction are the Ablorh Adjei Culvert on the 2.9km old Ashongman- Abokobi road, which is being constructed by Arimpa Limited. The Culvert is expected to hold water that normally floods the area.
The MCE also inspected another culvert, which is a community financed project, at Pure Water and the Kwabenya School Junction to Musuko Roundabout road, where contractors are laying asphalt.
A drainage system is also being constructed on the road from Abom Junction to Kwabenya road. The projects started after several complaints by residents.
Residents of Tiafa who have repeatedly complained about floods causing discomfort in the area after every downpour, are also being considered as the Municipal Roads Engineer, Foster Adoagye, assured residents that works were far advanced to bring them relief.
“We are constructing a triple three by two point five cell (culvert). About 70 percent of work has been done, but they are to construct a retaining wall of 20 meters outfall and the downstream they are to construct 10 meters retaining wall. And all buildings on the waterway will be pulled down.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Janet Tulasi Mensah also underscored the need to meet with other stakeholders to quicken development in the area.
“We have collated all the hotels and easy collectable business, and we are having business breakfast meetings to get closer to them in order to help us solve some of these various problems,” she added.
