Permutations by ace broadcaster, Paul Adom Otchere show that Supreme Court Judge, Justice Anin Yeboah is very likely to be announced as the President’s nominee for the position of Chief Justice.
Mr. Otchere is also strongly convinced that, the replacement of the next head of the country’s judiciary will not be a woman, according to his sources.
He said, although one other name – Justice Jones Dotse – is being vouched for by bigwigs within the President’s circles, Justice Anin Yeboah seems to have the odds in his favour as the successor of Justice Sophia Akuffo, who retires from active service on December 20, 2019.
“One thing we can say is that the next Chief Justice will not be a lady. I think that we have come to the suspension of the lady cause. So we’ve looked at the odds and saw that looking at all the comparisons, analysis, influence – we will make it a 2-1 that it goes to Anin Yeboah and a 3-1 that it goes to Justice Jones Dotse. All things being equal; we suspect that Justice Anin Yeboah might urge it, but the President is the decision-maker”, Paul Adom Otchere gave the hint on Eyewitness News.
This is the second time President Akufo-Addo is appointing the Chief Justice since the assumption of office.
Barring any last minutes changes, should he be nominated, accepted and approved in accordance with Article (144) of the 1992 constitution, Justice Anin Yeboah who is the fourth longest-serving Justice at the Supreme Court will also be the first Chief Justice in 12 years.
Justice Anin Yeboah was appointed to the Supreme Court by former President, John Agyekum Kufour in June 2008.
Before that, he served as a Justice of the High Court as well as a Justice of the Appeal Court.
In football, he was once the Chairman of the Appeal’s Committee of the Ghana Football Association and served as the Chairman of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
He is also a part-time lecturer at the Ghana School of law where he teaches Civil Procedure and the Ghana Legal System.
