The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a nursing mother, a spiritualist and seven other suspected hardened criminals.
The suspects were picked up during a two-week intelligence operation as part of ‘Operation Father Christmas’ aimed at curbing crime during the festive session.
Six of the suspects were arrested at Sukura, a suburb of Accra on November 20, 2019 when the police foiled their attempted robbery.
The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Fredrick Adu Anim, said the suspects are being investigated for alleged robbery, shooting and raping their victims at Trasscco, Dansoman, Nsawam and other parts of the country.
Items retrieved from the suspects included two vehicles, a pump-action gun, pistols, machetes, ammunition among others.
“Our appeal to the general public is that, since these crimes were committed in various places in Accra, Tema and parts of the Eastern Region, the victims should come forward and contact the Regional Police Command because we will conduct an identification parade so that they identify their suspects,” the Accra Regional Police Commander told the media.
The criminals are made up of two groups.
Members of the first gang who were arrested included six suspects namely; Moses Tetteh (20), alias Kaize, a machine operator; Loius Mawunyor Dzedzom (37), a driver; Kwame Takyi (25), alias Haruna Owu, also a driver; Kwabena Otibu (29), a phone repairer; Alhassan Abudai (42), a spiritualist and Eunice Dorkenu (29), the wife of Takyi.
The others are Abdul Rahaman Ishaq, alias Alhaji; Iddirsu Adul Jalil, aka CID and Faisal Mohammed Muniru.
