The Ghana Police Service has charged Ghanaians and other residents in the country to prioritize their security during the last day of 2019 and into the New Year.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Afia Tenge, the police will continue to provide security during this period with its Father Christmas operation.
Speaking to Citi News about security preparation for the crossover into 2020, DSP Afia Tenge urged the general public to put in place effective measures to protect their lives and properties.
“In seasons like this, what the police will do is to provide general security for each one of us. But what matters most is for us to take our individual security very seriously. We should be mindful of what we do and where we are going. We should not stay out too late. We should also reach out to the police in case of any emergency on our lines, that is, 191, 18555,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Police Command, Superintendent Iddrisu Tanko Issifu. says it is deploying personnel at vantage points of the region.
“At the church premises, men will be deployed to ensure that vehicles are properly packed for others to also pack and be able easily move out without any interference. Police will be around to ensure that vehicles are not broken into. The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) will also be deployed at various intersections to ensure a free flow of traffic within the metropolis. Not everybody in the household should leave and go to church as people must be left behind to help the police ensure that no one becomes a victim of criminals in the night,” he stated.
