Workers of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company have continued to demonstrate on the premises of the company as they seek the reinstatement of former Managing Director of the company, Seth Adu-Baah.
This protest marks the third time the workers since Monday, January 20, 2020, where they accused the company of unfair treatment of Ghanaian managers.
According to the workers, Felix Gomez, the Senegalese MD for West African countries instigated Mr. Adu-Baah’s removal.
They have also vowed to resist any new MD who may be appointed.
In an interview with Citi News, the Assistant Secretary of the Local chapter of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union of the Coca Cola Company, George Gyimah Sarpong, said the workers will resist the appointment of a new Managing Director.
“We want to send a clear signal and a strong signal to the President and the Minister of Trade and Industry that there is a man called Felix Gomez whose agenda it is to lay off all Ghanaian managing directors in executive positions in Coca Cola.”
“He has done that in Liberia. He has succeeded in Sierra Leone, he has succeeded in The Gambia but we are saying no way in Ghana. We will indeed be citizens and not spectators.”
“He also wants to lay off 150 staff and the current manager protested strongly saying he was not going to allow… [and] he has been asked to resign,” Mr. Sarpong said.
Seth Adu-Baah has also been credited with increasing sales volumes of the company over the past two years since he became MD.
In the petition to ICU which was sighted by Citi News, the Local Union executives of the company are calling for an investigation into his removal.
The company has since the protests started declined to comment on the matter.
