Management of the University of Cape Coast says activities on campus have returned to normal after last Saturday’s violent clash between students of the Oguaa Hall and ATL Hall.
According to Kwabena Antwi Konadu, who is the Acting Head of Public Affairs of the University, the safety of students and members of the University community is guaranteed as the University is working with the police to maintain calm on campus.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Konadu indicated that three students who suffered minor injuries are responding to treatment at the hospital.
“Campus is calm. In fact, it is extremely normal as it should be. We’ve been with the three students who got injured since Saturday till today. They are doing very well. They were discharged from the university hospital. We need to monitor them so we’ve been going to see them. The university management keeps visiting them to make sure we don’t move into a situation where it will generate into something else. So everything is normal,” he said.
Background
In the early hours of Saturday morning, students of Oguaa hall and ATL hall engaged in a fight where they burned two motorbikes and threw stones at each other, causing considerable damage to properties of both halls.
This ended up with some students sustaining various degrees of injury.
The management of the University in a press statement signed by the Registrar condemned the violent act and promised to collaborate with the Police to make sure the perpetrators are brought to book.
The Central Regional Police Command in response said it will also collaborate with the management of the school to identify and arrest students who were involved in a violent clash on campus.
