John Darko, an aspirant seeking to unseat Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in the Suame constituency of the Ashanti Region has expressed frustration over his inability to pick up nominations forms to contest in the party’s primaries.
He earlier petitioned the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, demanding to be allowed to pick up the forms at the regional office citing deliberate acts of frustration at the constituency level.
The frustrated aspirant told Citi News that he will be forced to petition the National Secretariat of the NPP if he doesn’t receive a favourable response by close of the day, Wednesday.
“Last Monday, I went to my constituency office to pick up a nomination form and I was told the nomination forms have finished. So yesterday, I had to send a petition to the regional chairman and its almost 48hrs now and I still don’t have a response.”
“If by close of day Wednesday, I still haven’t heard from them, then obviously I would have to escalate it to the national secretariat. As usual, I’m treated unfairly,” he said.
Background
John Darko, a legal practitioner had earlier lamented about the inability to pick nomination forms to contest in the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries.
In as much as efforts to get forms at the constituency office have proven futile, he told Citi News that he plans to pursue his ambitions through all the means provided by the party structures.
“Some of us are not ready to give up. I am going to move to the next stage until I pick the nomination forms because I believe that contesting the election in Suame is very critical.”
“The rules are very clear; if you come to the constituency and you don’t get it then you go to the region and if you don’t get it in the region then you go to the national level. So the next step for me is to go to the national headquarters,” Mr. Darko noted.
