The ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F has refuted reports attributed to the centre regarding a joint Ghanaian-Ivorian navy arrest of a vessel.
According to officials of the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre Zone F, such reports should be disregarded.
There were initial reports that the joint navy team made the arrest following the commissioning of a refurbished operations centre.
But a statement issued by the Centre and sighted by Citi News, stated that “the MMCC Zone F wishes to categorically state that, the centre did not and never stated that the Ghana navy or any authority nor the centre itself provided any assistance in the operation.”
The Centre also apologized unreservedly to the Ivorian navy and authorities.
“We wish to apologize to the Ivorian Navy and other authorities in Cote d’ Ivoire and the entire maritime community for the harm caused by the erroneous report.”
The centre stated its readiness to genuinely engage all partners.
