The National Executives of the Old Vandals Association of the Commonwealth Hall, University of Ghana (OVA) has disowned a group claiming to be OVA which supported a New Patriotic Party rejected parliamentary aspirant in the Sunyani West Constituency of the Bono Region.
The group had demanded the reinstatement of Bernard Oduro Takyi, an old vandal by the New Patriotic Party’s National Appeal Committee.
The group insisted that Oduro Takyi was disqualified for no apparent reason and all attempts to have the Bono Region Vetting Committee of the NPP reverse the decision has been unsuccessful.
But a press statement signed by the National President and Secretary of the OVA, insisted that OVA is an apolitical association and thus has no business meddling in the internal affairs of the NPP.
The press release indicated that even though the person in question, Bernard Oduro Takyi, is a member of the OVA, and all its members are free to join any political party they like, the association does not identify with any political party.
“The National Executive of OVA admits that Mr Takyi is a member of OVA. However, the National Executive of OVA had not issued any such statement or any statement purporting to support Mr. Takyi in his bid to become a parliamentary candidate…That whilst members of OVA are free to be members, sympathizers or supporters of any political party, OVA does not identify or align itself with any political party,” the statement added.
