The Eastern Regional Health Directorate is currently monitoring three out of the 600 contact traced persons who came into contact with 24 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.
12 persons who were suspected of having coronavirus-related symptoms have all tested negative.
The health directorate which has so far activated the Public Health Emergency Management Committees in all the 33 districts within the region is yet to test the 3 contact traced persons.
The Regional Health Promotion Officer Bridget Anim speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the Regional Launch of the National Disinfection Exercise says the three are being monitored day and night.
“As at March 22, we had 12 suspected cases and all tested negative so we don’t have any confirmed case in the Eastern Region but we have three contacts of suspected cases we are following up on . These three are contacts of the 24 confirmed cases and we have some in our districts in the region. We are following religiously to check their temperature to check whether they have developed any symptoms. We are going to be testing the contacts to confirm whether they have it or not”.
Madam Gertrude Anim also revealed that public health emergency management committees have all been activated in the 33 districts of the Eastern Region to embark on surveillance and active search on cases.
“At those levels, we have already put our plans in place which are actively working/ Also we have enhanced surveillance going on in all the districts where we are actively searching for cases, moving from homes at the district levels to educate people to find out if people have symptoms. We are also doing a lot of public sensitization using radio, public address systems, information centres and currently. W are also tracing a few contacts too.”
She, however, advised the general public to be cautious as they go about their daily activities.
“The disease is contagious but we should not be scared provided we follow the directives and wash our hands regularly, using hand sanitizers and keeping the social distancing which has been the majority challenge we are facing now but if we are able to do now we will be able to contain the condition”.
