Among the issues on the Accra-Tema motorway which lead to road crashes, reckless driving is a major contributory factor.
Citi TV’ War Against Indiscipline was on the motorway earlier on Wednesday where scores of drivers were arrested for making illegal U-turns.
Taking illegal U-turns on the stretch can cause crashes as oncoming vehicles speeding on the highway can run into them.
There are others who also make the illegal U-turns at places that make them avoid taking a turn at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.
At the toll booth, several drivers were also seen using or attempting to use the emergency U-turn for ambulances and security agencies on national assignments.
A police officer at the toll booth, together with some of the hawkers tipped off the drivers about the presence of the WAI team, making them speed off.
The officer in question was reprimanded and so were the vendors.
One after the other, drivers who habitually use the emergency U-turn fell in the hands of the law.
Their vehicles were impounded and sent to the Airport Police Station.
The War Against Indiscipline campaign started in May 2019 with a view to name, shame and punish persons who break road traffic regulations.
Police subsequently joined the campaign and prosecuted traffic offenders.
The campaign is intended to run until at least May 2020.
