The Ministry of Sanitation and water resources has entreated the general public to cooperate to ensure the success of the 3-day cleanup exercise in all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within Greater Accra and Kumasi.
The Ministry is using the lockdown period to clean the cities in support of the fight against the COVID-19.
Speaking at a press briefing this morning, the Minister of Sanitation and water resources, Cecelia Abena Dapaah said citizens should practice proper disposal of waste with the onset of the rainy season.
“Indeed, the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi lockdown is in all the assemblies and the local contractors as well as the fire service, NADMO, we have also the engineers regiment to help us cleanse and clean the streets and especially desilt our chocked gutters. We have been planning to do this for some time, now, fortunately, we have the streets cleared of people, pedestrians and hawkers to be able to carry out this exercise. We entreat all of us to cooperate and pray for the success of all of this because once we keep personal hygiene, we should also clean our environment to make sure we have a complete set of hygiene to make us healthier. I will also humbly entreat all of us in our homes that we can exercise by using our homes and our immediate environment. When you finish, gather all the garbage and put them in a bin or in bins in front of your houses, the contractors and the assemblies will come and pick them up.”
