Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central constituency, Isaac Adongo has made a second donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Bolgatanga municipal health directorate to support the fight against COVID-19.
The items are to be fairly distributed to the 42 public and private health facilities within the municipality to assist in the prevention and management of the coronavirus pandemic in the area.
The items include 4,000 pieces of surgical gloves, 2,000 pieces of surgical masks, 20 non-contact thermometers, 83 veronica buckets, 100 veronica receptive bowls and 10 boxes of liquid soap.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Isaac Adongo said the items will complement the directorate’s efforts towards the fight against COVID-19 in the area.
“Can you imagine working with only five non-contact thermometers in the municipality with 15 teams doing contact tracing of 320 suspected cases?”
“Today, I’m happy to present to the directorate 20 pieces of non-contact thermometers to support the course against COVID-19,” he said.
Mr.Adongo also refuted claims that, the government had support Members of Parliament with GHC50,000 to support the COVID-19 fight, describing the claims as mischievous.
“Let me say that that information is false. I did not receive any GHC50,000 allocation from the government and I have not used any common fund to support COVID-19 fight. The donations made are from my personal funds and that of friends,” he said.
He indicated that an estimated amount of GHC10,500 would be spent on radio advert on all radio station in the municipality to educate the populace on COVID-19 and also cater for fuel and feeding to his COVID-19 campaign team.
Bolgatanga Municipal Health Director, Edmund Nyanwura commended the Bolga Central legislator for his contribution to the fight against COVID-19 and assured him that, the items will be put to good use.
“The items presented by the MP are exactly the things we have been lacking particularly infrared thermometers’, PPE, surgical mask and gloves and the consumables. Let me assure that, we will use these items economically while we continue to appeal to benevolent organizations and Philanthropists to come to our aid in fighting the menace” he added.
There are currently 8 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Upper East region whose capital is Bolgatanga.
