Management of the Koforidua Technical University has expressed gratitude to Citi TV and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for disinfecting the university in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The disinfection exercise which was done on Wednesday by over 80 workers from Zoomlion saw all lecture halls, demonstration rooms, academic blocks, faculty bungalows and students hostels disinfected.
Other universities that have enjoyed the collaborative initiative of Citi TV and Zoomlion include the University of Ghana (UG), the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), the Accra Technical University and the Central University.
In an interview with Citi News, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor David Kofi Assuman, said the intervention by Citi TV and Zoomlion is very important for the fight against COVID-19.
“We want to show appreciation to Citi TV and Zoomlion. In fact, they are doing a good job. It would have been very difficult for us to fight this COVID-19 pandemic without this activity. So I would like to appreciate Zoomlion and Citi TV for the good job that they are doing against this pandemic. I will say that one of the best exercises we can do for these universities is to fumigate the environment of these institutions because the virus can be submitted on surfaces as well and so until we are able to clean the surfaces, the fight cannot be taken to its conclusion.”
Madame Faustina Shadey, the Public Jobs Manager for Zoomlion in the Eastern Region who supervised the exercise indicated that the importance of the exercise is to suppress the viral load in the environment.
“It so happened that this school here in the Eastern Region has been captured in our fumigation exercise so we are here today with our machines to spray the area. We have about 80 sprayers using the vehicles and the backpack spraying machines. This exercise is part of efforts to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic because when we spray, we reduce the viral load in the environment so that when school reopens the students will have a safe space to learn.”
The exercise is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Citi TV and Zoomlion Ghana.
The exercise seeks to keep university campuses safe and clean for use when academic work resumes.
Schools are on forced break as part of government’s measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
