Member of Parliament (MP)for Manhyia South Constituency, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has presented medical essentials to the Manhyia Government Hospital.
The gesture is part of efforts to support health facilities within the Ashanti Region in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
The items which included; 400 face masks, 2500 hand gloves and hand sanitizers are to support frontline health workers at the hospital in the discharge of their duties especially in the wake of the pandemic.
The Manhyia Government Hospital, situated at a strategic location serves over fifty communities and residents from densely populated areas in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking after handing over the items to the management of the hospital, Dr Opoku Prempeh described the pandemic which is plaguing nations as double jeopardy for the world’s population.
“All over the world, the COVID disease is hitting us doubly, it is making some people very sick who need hospital care, and when you go to hospital care those who are active and they want to care for you, are also being hit with the disease. This is double jeopardy for the population,” he lamented.
He called on all to support Government, health facilities and frontline staff who are working tirelessly to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Dr Prempeh also encouraged the frontline staff at the hospital to remain resolute in these trying times as the nation was with them.
A clinical coordinator and a surgeon at the Manhyia Government Hospital, Dr Michael Opoku who received the donation on behalf of the facility commended the gesture.
He indicated that the items will go a long way to support the efforts of caregivers at the facility working to contain the spread of the virus.
At the Abbey’s Park, the Manhyia South MP presented 1,200 bags of rice and about 2,000 cartons of cooking oil to be distributed to all 1,600 households in the Constituency.
The donation is to support families within the Constituency who are staying indoors following the ongoing partial lockdown.
The MP advised his constituents to adhere strictly to the directives and observe the protocols aimed at preventing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
