The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah has cut the sod for the construction of a 320-bedroom complex at Arakan Barracks.
He was joined by the CEO of Paragon Building, Kwasi Siriboe and John Watson Otumfour of Mayfair Estates Limited.
The Transit Accommodation Complex, when completed, will house other ranks from outstations Units who are nominated for external Peace Support Operations (PSO).
The facility will also host soldiers selected for administrative and operational duties.
According to Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, his encounter as Director of Army Peacekeeping Operations gave him an insight on the real challenges during the embarkation processes of personnel detailed for such operations.
He said the situation exposed most of the personnel to hazards hence the headquarters’ decision to construct the three-storey facility.
A four-member BOD Chaired by the Commanding Officer of Five Battalion of Infantry Lieutenant Colonel Seth Odei is expected to supervise the constructing of the Transit Accommodation Complex.
The project would be funded by the Army Headquarters from its Peace Support Operations Budget and executed Messrs Paragon Company Limited.
