Phase two of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) primaries will be held in about 168 constituencies today [Saturday , 20th June, 2020.]
The first phase of the primaries came off in September 2019 in “orphan constituencies” – constituencies with no sitting Members of Parliament.
A total of 374 aspirants are contesting in the 168 constituencies; of which 325 are men and 51 are women.
The elections are being held within the electoral areas to ensure social distancing and COVID-19 safety protocols.
Sixty-seven constituencies will have candidates going unopposed with 101 constituencies having open contests.
Delegates are generally made up of the various constituency and electoral area level executives who will be voting at the 2,407 voting centres from 7 am to 1 pm today.
But constituency executives, Members of Parliament, patrons of the party and foundational members will be voting at their constituency secretariats.
Seven out of the 67 going unopposed are from the Greater Accra Region.

Hot constituencies to watch
In the Greater Accra Region, the contest between Deputy Majority Leader and Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement, Adwoa Safo and Mike Oquaye Junior in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency will be closely monitored.
Other constituencies with high stakes are Tema West, Tema East, Ablekuma North and Adentan.
Constituencies that might be of interest to Ghanaians in the Ashanti Region are Adansi Asokwa, Bantama, Manhyia North and Asante Akim South.
There will also be a lookout for how results from the Sunyani East and Berekum East all in Bono Region will turn out.
