The UK Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned attacks on the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Jean Mensa over the compilation of a new voters’ register.
In a statement signed by its UK’s NPP Women Wing’s Organiser Shirley Kyei, criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and critics over comments against the commissioner.
It further held that Jean Mensa has shown competence in her former position as the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), as well as other portfolios.
The group, therefore, called on the “Christian Council of Ghana, the various women advocates and Advocacy groups, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to condemn such acts of irresponsibility and barbarism.”
It further advised that “in our quest to hold the Electoral Commission accountable, it is imperative that we refrain from the use of abusive and threatening language.”
“We all as a collective body owe it a duty to be decorous and constructive in our criticisms,” the group added.
