“We are aware of the job the Ghana Police Service is doing as frontline workers. Normally, when we discuss COVID-19, there is so much attention on the health officials alone. But we know that as a police service, there is physical interaction with people.”
“So we found the need to collaborate with the Regional Coordinating Council and the Ghana Police Service, especially Accra Regional Command to ensure that the EI 164 is fully enforced,” he said.
He added that his outfit has gathered that “the legal directorate of the Accra Regional Police Command has embarked on a massive public education on COVID-19 so, we are here on two bases, let’s educate and let’s ensure that people wear their mask at all times.”
He further urged the police officers to use the items for their intended purposes;
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey who was also part of the team that did the presentation called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to take charge of the fight against COVID-19.
He tasked the police to enforce the Executive Instrument on wearing of face mask without fear or favour.
“I have directed all Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives to undertake vigorous community education and sensitization on the EI. I want to encourage the police to enforce the law. In this regard, Commander, Please prepare your personnel very well to carry out the assignment in a very professional manner,” he said.
He was optimistic that the measures put in place by the government will yield a positive result.
On his part, the Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Frederick Adu-Anim pledged to enforce the directives.
