The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has endorsed the 5th edition of ReadCamp Project.
The project is aimed at improving the reading and writing skills of students at the Junior High School (JHS) and basic school level in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
The revered Islamic Icon gave his blessing for the out of campus literacy project when the Mother of All Nations Foundation (MOANF), organizers of the project paid a courtesy call to his office.
The Chief Imam acknowledged the importance of the project which focuses on students in deprived communities in Accra and Kumasi.
According to him, “education is the bedrock to success and such initiative will go a long way to help pupils who are currently at home due to COVID-19 and do not have THE chance to access classroom lessons.”
“I am very elated for this noble course young men and women like you are championing to impact knowledge to the younger generation of this country. You have my full blessings and support of my office. We’ll ensure we also back you and your institution with prayer for a successful program,” Sheikh Sharubutu added.
Sheikh Sharubutu also admonished MOANF and its volunteers and mentees to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols to stem the spread of the virus.
Executive Director for Mother of All Nations Foundation, Zoic Abubakari Newton in an interview also explained that the project is touching the lives of two thousand in Accra and one thousand in Kumasi.
He explained that, MOANF, with sponsorship from Mobraz Farms, introduced ReadCamp20 COVID-19 edition which will use the home literacy approach to reach 3,000 children in their homes both in Accra and Kumasi with their well-structured reading materials.
“Since its inception, the project has touched the lives of over 3,000 young learners with its structured and well-tailored reading models. The project which will have Volunteer Mentors visiting households in their Protective equipment will start on the 18th of August and end on the 10th of September 2020 in Accra while that of Kumasi starts from the 26th of August and ends on the 17th of September 2020,” Mr Newton noted.
