The Graduate Students Association of Ghana at the University of Professional Studies has petitioned the Institute of Chartered Accountants to investigate a former internal auditor of the school, Michael Quaye.
Mr. Quaye had accused the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, of corruption and fraud.
Among others, he said the former Vice-Chancellor spent close to GHS2 million on purchasing a Toyota V8 Land Cruiser and E-class Mercedes Benz for his personal use without resort to the University’s governing council.
Prof. Amartey has already refuted claims of corruption and fraud levelled against him by the former internal auditor of the University.
GRASAG has also described Mr. Quaye’s conduct as “unprofessional and nebulous.”
“He clandestinely ran to the media to level unfounded allegations against our Current vice-chancellor (VC), Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey on certain issues for which he, unfortunately, failed to furnish the media outlet with the key evidence,” the association said in the petition.
The association also claims Mr. Quaye “did not even qualify to be a senior member of the institution and not to talk of being a Director of Audit from 2017 to 2018 in his acting capacity as the Director of Audit.”
It contends that Mr. Quaye’s appointment was “illegal and a breach of the University’s statutes and in compliance with the recommendations of the audit report, he was transferred to the Finance Directorate of the School Administration.”
“His unfortunate behaviour leads us to question his professional code of ethics and enquire from your outfit if your members are trained to act in such an unprofessional manner.”
It is thus urging the institute to probe the “reasons for his forfeiture of best practice as a professional and thereby willfully accepting a position, knowing running fully well that he did not meet the requirements for qualification and yet is quick to accuse and slander school authorities in the media.”
GRASAG maintains that Mr. Quaye must be called to order by the institute for his “unprofessional conduct”.
