The Electoral Commission (EC) discovered 6,080 prospective voters with multiple registrations during the voter registration exercise.

These persons will not be allowed to vote in the upcoming polls.

The commission will make the names and other details of such persons public.

The EC will also display an exceptions list which contains persons who will also not be allowed to vote in the upcoming election.

Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa, disclosed this at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the voter register exhibition exercise.

The EC earlier inaugurated an Adjudication Committee to manually determine cases of duplicated voter registrations.

It reconciled cases where registrants’ facial and biometric features as captured by the biometric registration kits conflict.

The incidences of multiple registrations that came before the committee were those flagged by the automatic biometric identification system without being resolved.

The final stage in ensuring the credibility of the register will be an assessment by District Registration Review Officers.

They have been appointed and assigned the responsibility of “deciding on all complaints and objections that will be raised during the exhibition exercise,” the EC Chair explained.

The District Registration Review Officers will also authenticate the Provisional Voters Register by endorsing it.

“The voters register will only be deemed final after the exhibition exercise is completed and after authentication by the Magistrates who for the purpose of this Exercise serve as District Registration Review Officers (DRRO’s),” she noted.
