As part of the ‘Accra Mall Green Survival Pack Project’, Ghana’s first large-scale mall, Accra Mall in partnership with Give Back Ghana, a scheme set up to help the most vulnerable families in Central Accra has donated over 500 indispensable food and sanitation boxes to the poor and needy at four localities in Accra.
The donation exercise which forms part of the mall’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) started from Madina through Okponglo, Bawaleshie and ended at Spintex.
Speaking at the donation exercise, Marketing Manager of Accra Mall, Anthony Asamoah said, the primary objective of the ‘Accra Mall Green Survival Pack Project’, was to contribute to ongoing national efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For us at Accra Mall and Give Back Ghana, this is not a donation but a responsibility because we believe that fighting the COVID-19 pandemic is not the responsibility of one set of actors but a joint responsibility. We care for our community and understand that Covid-19 has made life more difficult for many families and individuals who were already struggling, thus the need for this project,” he said.
He also noted that, ‘we have decided to support deprived communities with 500 essential food and sanitation boxes along with 1,000 nose masks and face shields to residents at selected communities. This gesture is a token of our commitment to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure that families are safe.”
Mr. Asamoah also added that beneficiaries were pre-identified through a survey and given identity cards which they used to redeem their packages.
Some of the beneficiaries were grateful to the Accra Mall and Give Back Ghana for the gesture.
“God bless the authorities of Accra Mall for what they have done for us. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, my family has been struggling. Life has become very tough for us, so these food items have come at the right time,” Memunatu Issah, a resident of Okponglo said.
Aside from the Accra Mall Green Survival Pack, the mall organises the Future Fashion Fund and several other CSR endeavours.
The Future Fashion Fund comes off annually to showcase the talent of budding fashion designers with the winner awarded a cash prize of ¢3000 and a pop-up stall at the mall.
